Handheld computers are not for everyone. Because of the engineering trade-offs that are inherent in the design of such a small device, special demands are placed on the user. In addition to “normal” computer skills that are required of any “normal computer” user, the handheld computer places additional demands on the user.
The handheld computer is more likely to be a useful tool for people who are exceptionally intelligent, open minded, creative, motivated and who have strong problem solving skills. The successful handheld computer user will tend to have clearly defined goals, but will be very flexible in how they achieve those goals. They will also be open to new opportunities that present themselves along the way. Most importantly the handheld computer user must be highly adaptable.
The handheld computer can be thought of as the ultimate thinking person’s tool. However, it is amazing to see the excitement, passion and devotion that these devices create in their users. It’s funny to see otherwise rational people become emotional when describing their passionate relationship with their handheld computer.
